It can be tricky to stay focused when you’re doing something as boring as job-hunting, but keep your eye on the prize and laser focus in on what you really want.
#2. Have a goal. Oh, so you don’t really know what you want? That is a problem. Simply getting a job because you want money leaves you missing the best part of working. People work for all kinds of reasons. Some people work for non-profits in order to help make a big difference in the world.
People work in sales to give themselves a non-stop challenge and to meet new people. Customer service representatives get a real rush from actually helping people solve their day-to-day problems. If you don’t have a goal for your employment, you should give it some real thought and consider what it is you want out of your job, beyond a stack of green. #3. Your resume should stress how your skills will benefit company. Your resume and cover letter are sales documents, don’t let anyone ever tell you anything different. Write down some questions about the industry or the corporate culture, or even specific questions about how your (hopefully) future position will function. Don’t be pedantic about it, but it’s important to show that you’re interested in the company, know something about the industry and are eager to get to work.
