Call Forwarding Instructions

This is a cheat sheet for CenturyLink customers looking to direct their incoming calls to an answering service. Let’s walk through the various ways you can set up call forwarding on your CenturyLink phone—whether it’s general call forwarding, no answer, or when busy forwarding. With call forwarding you will never miss an important call—and always help customers when they need it the most.

Unconditional Call Forwarding:

  1. Lift the receiver on your business phone and listen for the dial tone, then press *72.
  2. After you hear a “stutter” dial tone followed by a regular dial tone, enter the 10-digit number provided to you by your answering service.
  3. Call forwarding will be activated once the phone is answered or you reach the voicemail and hang up.

No Answer Call Forwarding:

  1. Lift the receiver on your business phone and listen for the dial tone, then press *92.
  2. Once you hear the dial tone, enter the 10-digit phone number where you are forwarding your calls.
  3. When the call is answered, your call forwarding will be activated.

Busy Call Forwarding:

  1. Lift the receiver on your business phone and listen for the dial tone, then press *90.
  2. Once you hear the dial tone, enter the 10-digit phone number where you are forwarding your calls.
  3. When the call is answered, your call forwarding will be activated.

No Answer and Busy Call Forwarding:

  1. Lift the receiver on your business phone and listen for the dial tone, then press *90 and *92.
  2. Once you hear the dial tone, enter the 10-digit phone number where you are forwarding your calls.
  3. When the call is answered, your call forwarding will be activated.

Selective Call Forwarding:

  1. Lift the receiver on your business phone and listen for the dial tone, then press *63.
  2. Enter the 10-digit phone number you want to add to the list.
  3. Then enter the 10-digit phone number where you are forwarding your calls.

 

Keep in mind that some answering services may have specific requirements or limitations with their call forwarding capabilities. So make sure to always check with them to be certain they can take forwarded calls. An important note: before using the forwarding option for customer calls, always make sure it works as you expected.

Turn Off Call Forwarding

Unconditional Call Forwarding

  1. Lift the receiver on your business phone and listen for a dial tone, then press *73—do not add your forwarding number for this process
  2. Wait until you hear 2 short tones followed by a regular dial tone.
  3. End the call and your call forwarding will be turned off.

No Answer Call Forwarding

  1. Lift the receiver on your business phone and listen for a dial tone, then press *93—do not add your forwarding number for this process
  2. Wait until you hear 2 short tones followed by a regular dial tone.
  3. End the call and your no answer call forwarding will be turned off.

Busy Call Forwarding

  1. Lift the receiver on your business phone and listen for a dial tone, then press *93—do not add your forwarding number for this process
  2. Wait until you hear 2 short tones followed by a regular dial tone.
  3. End the call and your busy call forwarding will be turned off.

No Answer and Busy Call Forwarding

  1. Lift the receiver on your business phone and listen for a dial tone, then press *91 and *93—do not add your forwarding number for this process
  2. Wait until you hear 2 short tones followed by a regular dial tone.
  3. End the call and your no answer and busy call forwarding will be turned off.

CenturyLink Call Forwarding FAQs

1. What Happens If the Call Is Not Answered When I Am Setting Up Call Forwarding?

If the first attempted call is not answered, hang up and try the previously mentioned steps again within two minutes of the original call. When the number you are forwarding to rings, you can end the call and the feature will become active.

2. What Is Remote Access Forwarding?

If you’d like to forward your calls, but can’t make it to the office, you’re able to do so from another location with Remote Access Forwarding. To do this, you need to call the CenturyLink Update Center at 1 (888)-(your area code)-8052. For example, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, you would call 1 (888) 954-8052. You will be prompted to enter your business’s 10-digit telephone number and then have to enter a security code. Once you’ve entered your information, you will follow the recorded instructions and can select Remote Access Forwarding.

3. Can I Set Up a Call Forwarding Schedule?

Yes, CenturyLink has a forwarding schedule feature that allows you to designate call forwarding at certain times. Similar to Remote Access Forwarding, you need to call the CenturyLink Update Center at 1 (888)-(your area code)-8052. Once you reach the main menu, you will press 3 and will be able to enter your schedule.
