This month we sat down with Michael Syrok, an agent with our Answering Service team since April of 2016.

What is your role with the company?

I receive calls from clients—it could be for doctors, lawyers, property managers, plumbers, electricians, contractors or others. We either send a message over or call the client and give the message verbally, depending on how they have it set up.

I cover the Northeast region, usually the Middle Atlantic states. But when there is overflow or a need, I cover all calls, whatever is needed.

I work part-time. I look forward to coming in. I get here an hour early before my shift to get set up. I just love it.

What is it like to work with this company?

Prior to joining the Answering Service Care team, I was in the retail shoe business for 35 years, mostly in New York. Customer service is customer service, but here it is different because it isn’t face-to-face – it is on the phone.

I actually think it is a wonderful working environment here. The people are so nice and so helpful. It feels like a big family. Everybody wants everybody to succeed. We have great people, and it is a very diverse team. I was set up to succeed—I had a great manager and a great mentor

Have you learned any important lessons while working here in this job?

I’ve learned a lot of patience. To do this job well, you need to have a lot of patience and empathy. Some of the callers and clients need our support and understanding. Sometimes people are upset or concerned or stressed. As agents, we empathize with the callers. We are understanding that we appreciate where they are coming from. These are real people with real issues, and we do what we can to listen and help them get the support and help they need, whatever it is.

What kinds of things do you like to do outside of work?

I’m working on getting my BA degree in Supervision and Management. I expect to be done in 2018.

I also dabble in selling licensed sports products – that’s one of my passions and I have an eBay business. I love baseball, basketball and football especially.

I go to sporting events – a lot of Marlins games. I like to read, especially self-help books and business books.
