This month we sat down with Lois Cornwall, our Executive Administrator.

What is your role with the company?

This time around, I have been with Answering Service Care since September of 2011. I say “this time around” because I was actually with the company from before it was bought it 1974. I stayed on when the Shoosters bought Ding-A-Ling and was part of the team until the mid-1980s. Back then, the company was in start-up mode. I acted as manager, but I did whatever was needed, whenever it was needed: preparing payroll, taking sales calls, hiring, answering phones, supervising and training, and even changing fuses on switchboards. Whatever had to be done, I did.

I left the company in the mid-80’s to pursue other interests. In 2011 I learned that our co-CEO, Michael Shooster, was looking for an Executive Administrator, and that’s how I ended up returning to the company. It was fortunate that the timing worked out that way!

In my current role, my responsibilities and duties are quite varied. I have worked with people in state and local government offices on special joint projects for our business. I assist Michael with setting up meetings, conference calls, and handling correspondence. I also participate in bi-weekly team meetings for our Answering Service and Fulfillment businesses. I take meeting notes and distribute them to the participants and ensure follow up on assignments. As usual, I do whatever needs to be done.

Every day is different, and I take it as it comes. I have a pretty good overview of different parts of the company, and I provide support in many of them.

What is it like to work with this company?

For me, the most enjoyable thing is that my work is varied. You do what needs to be done, and every day is different. I have learned a lot since I have been here, and it is enjoyable to learn so many different things.

I’ve seen the Shooster children grow up, and it’s nice to observe how they have grown in their respective roles.

Have you learned any important lessons while working here in this job?

When I came back in 2011, I was very comfortable here. It felt like coming home. It is an atmosphere that encourages growth, professionalism and efficiency while still being nurturing and positive.

What kinds of things do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our dog named Radar. We love the outdoors, and especially playing tennis. I also enjoy hobbies, including flower arranging and cooking. I am always finding new recipes and experimenting. We also like to travel.
